Host Sun-hee MIN interviewed Professor OH Joon-seok of Sookmyung Women’s University & I concerning the Great Resignation—Why are people quitting their jobs amidst high inflation and possible recession? - 9/12/12—I made my 5th appearance on the Recruiting Animal’s Blog Talk Radio show. This was a pretty intense & wide-ranging interview discussing the falsification of credentials when interviewing for a job (e.g., Elizabeth Warren’s Native-American ancestry claim), hiring on the basis of political affiliations & beliefs, the omnipresent social media issues in HR, recruiter commission & pay issues, & more issues concerning the law, recruiting & HR. - On August 27, 2012, I was interviewed by First Business News‘ Chuck Coppola, for his Cover Story “Labor Pains.” This is a 2:20 story about the current state of labor unions in America & their current political clout in this presidential election year. I have two spots in the story, at 33 seconds into it & at 1:50. Essentially, labor unions & the Republican Party have no use for each other, while labor is having problems even in friendlier states like Indiana. The story is available here.

- April 1, 2009, live interview on VoiceAmerica’s program “Return on Human Capital” run by & hosted by Howard Pines & Jay Santamaria of Beam Pines human capital consultancy; I was interviewed along with Steve Swirsky, Partner, Epstein Becker & Green, regarding the proposed Employee Free Choice Act (AKA Card Check Bill); my end of the interview (about 20 minutes) concerned the overall economic and political impact of the EFCA and its origins.
- January 2009: I’m now writing articles for “Doctor of Dentistry’s Greater Chicago Edition.” This is a hard copy “business and lifestyle magazine for dentists.” My articles focus on the human resources & labor & employment law issues encountered by dental practices. - November 19, 2008, I was interviewed live on the Recruiting Animal show on Blog Talk Radio. Host & professional recruiter the Recruiting Animal (his blog) interviewed me, for about 90 minutes, on the legal issues encountered by in-house & 3rd party recruiting professionals.
- September 5 2008, Law360.com, The Newswire for Attorneys, I was interviewed for and quoted in Christina Caulfield’s article “Work E-Mails: The New Smoking Guns.” The article concerns workplace emails in the aftermath of two Credit Suisse brokers charged with conspiring to deceive investors via e-mail.
- May 2008, Health Leaders, I’m quoted in the online and hardcopy editions of Corey Christman’s Health Leaders’ article “From Collaboration Comes Motivation–Motivating your unionized work force to achieve a top level of performance must be a joint effort between labor and management.”

- October 12, 2009, I was part of a panel presentation for the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago (HRMAC). We discussed legal issues concerning setting up a business in Illinois, & how people in transition must consider these issues when thinking about setting up their own business, instead of looking for “salaried” work. Thanks to Steve Callisher, Vice President of The Mentor Group Inc., & member of the HRMAC HR Transition Group planning committee & the Board of Directors for a chapter of SHRM (CHRA), for inviting us to present. This took place at United Airlines’ Reservation Center in Des Plaines, IL.
- September 24, 2009, I presented the University of Illinois’ “Finding Talent” program for employers & recruiters. My presentation concerned legal issues surrounding background checking, electronic communication & social networking in recruiting & selection. This was sponsored by the Alumni Career Center at the University of Illinois Alumni Association. - July 22, 2009, I presented a labor & employment law seminar at Chicago’s City Hall. Thanks to the City of Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs for setting this up. This was my 6th presentation for them.

- March 4, 2009, presentation for the World Trade Center Illinois‘ Doing Business With Latin America seminar at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. - February 24, 2009, Joshua Betancourt with UBS Financial Services sponsored a business law seminar centered on business asset protection. This included protecting intellectual property from competitors & current & former employees, employment agreements including non-competes, non-disclosures, severance, hiring & separation. Boris Umansky of national IP law firm Leydig, Voit & Mayer, presented on intellectual property, copyright, patent & trademark law. Joshua focused on business financial asset protection strategies, and I handled employment agreements & employment law.
- February 20, 2009, I gave my 5th seminar for the City of Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs & Licensing. Like my other seminars this was Q & A focused. Attendees received a 20-page handout summarizing 55+ federal, state and local labor & employment laws, & examining a variety of human resources related legal issues. This handout is available here.

- February 27, 2008, 2 hour training session for a Chicago-based nonprofit. The training concerned progressive discipline and discharge. As typical with most of my training sessions, Q & A and role playing were emphasized. The session was conducted for middle and senior managers with supervisory responsibilities. The training also included a handout which I’ve posted on this site as a PDF. You can access the 10 page handout here/link. In order to maintain confidentiality, I removed the business’ name and all identifying references to the business.
- January 12, 2008, I presented at the Ground Floor Entrepreneur Center’s 2008 business development seminar. I was part of the “Staffing for Success” panel focusing on the legal issues established businesses must consider relative to selecting, screening/verifying and hiring employees. Other sessions centered on various development, marketing and finance issues encountered by established businesses.
